Our regenerative work
Many of us found ourselves in Extinction Rebellion because we have seen the truth...and we cannot be complicit in the extinction of humanity and life on earth. Holding that truth, while grieving the loss of so much human life and biodiversity, while also engaging in rebellion, is A LOT. We see regenerative culture as a core aspect of our work. Without spaces and time for regeneration, our justice work can lead to “burnout”, seemingly irresolvable group and interpersonal conflicts, and the reproduction of hierarchies and toxic systems that pervade human life - all while we are trying to collectively rebel.
To mitigate against these potential aspects of collective work, we center the various levels of care needed to see us through the climate crisis: inner care, community care, ecosystem care, action care, and physical care. For more information on what we mean by that, this publication by Extinction Rebellion, Australia is a useful resource: Regenerative Culture 101
The Regenerative Culture Working Group meets weekly and we use the document to center our work and guide our path: XR Nola Regenerative Culture (hu)mandate
